The Rhino or “horned-nosed” herbivore is native to Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Due to illegal poaching, climate changes or destruction of their habitats, there are only 5 species left (there were over 20 species). Rhinos have not changed very much physically for the past million years; they have very thick skin made of lattice designed collagen, and their horn is made of keratin (not bone). Rhinos weigh up to 1 ton, have poor eyesight, but acute hearing and smell. Rhinos are considered one of the most dangerous animals to humans, and are responsible for many wilderness-related deaths. Rhinos can live up to 50 years or more.
